A state park in Northern Michigan will close for nearly a year starting this fall and lasting through the summer of 2025.
Ludington State Park will close on Sept. 3, 2024 and remain closed through July 1, 2025, according to a notice posted by the Michigan DNR.

The DNR said the closure is “Due to planned park enhancements – paving the park’s main road and Hamlin Lake day-use area parking lot, expanding parking at Lake Michigan and warming shelters and enhancing traffic and pedestrian flow at the park entrance.”
Ludington State Park, situated between the 5,000-acre Hamlin Lake and 7 miles of sandy Lake Michigan shoreline, features scenic sand dunes, three campgrounds, the iconic Big Sable Point Lighthouse, 21 miles of marked trails and more. A 1-mile stretch of the Big Sable River runs through the park and provides excellent opportunities for fishing, paddling and tubing.
It is one of the most popular state parks for camping.
