Thousands of Michigan voters cast their ballots on the first day of early in-person voting.
Michigan’s Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said more than 6,500 voters across Michigan voted in the presidential primary election on Saturday.
“I was proud to cast my vote yesterday along with over 6,500 voters statewide who chose to participate in Michigan’s first day of early voting,” Secretary Benson said. “All across the state, thousands of clerks and election workers ensured the historic day was a success. I am grateful to all of them for their hard work and dedication to ensuring every voice is heard and every vote is counted in every election.”
Early voting will be available until Sunday, Feb. 25. This is the first election where Michigan voters have the option to cast a ballot in person at an early voting site in a statewide election.
A constitutional requirement mandates for at least nine days of in-person early voting for statewide and federal elections following the passage of Proposal 2. Michigan is the 22nd state to implement in-person early voting.
