Accumulating snow possible in parts of Michigan

Metro Detroit will only see flurries

Parts of Michigan will see some March snow to start the week.

Metro Detroit will mostly be seeing some light snow showers, but nothing more than a trace when it comes to accumulation this week. Outside of Southeast Michigan, some areas could see a few inches by Tuesday.

West Michigan snow forecast

Here’s what to expect from the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids: Lake effect snow will continue to Monday mid-day. Accumulations will stay limited to the lakeshore, mainly near and west of US-131.

One to four inches of accumulation will be possible with brief periods of reduced visibility, light accumulation on roads. Some blowing snow will also be possible this afternoon as winds gust towards 30 mph.

Northern Lower Michigan snow forecast

Areas near Traverse City, Frankfurt and Manistee could see a couple of inches on Monday morning, with another system moving in Monday night into Tuesday, according to the NWS in Gaylord: A quick moving storm will bring light snow to the region, with a general 1 to 3 inches. Locally higher amounts will be possible across the tip of the mitt into eastern portions of the UP.

Michigan Upper Peninsula snow forecast

Nothing the Upper Peninsula can’t handle, with some lake effect snow today and then again tonight, with more chances into Wednesday. A few inches of snow will be possible, according to the NWS in Marquette.
