Michigan State Police are sending troopers to Milwaukee to help with security at the 2024 Republican National Convention.

The city of Milwaukee made an Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) request, and in response MSP is sending 35 troopers to help with security and crowd management at the convention.

Troopers will leave Michigan for Milwaukee on July 13 and work for seven days. Capt. Gregory Morenko, commander of the MSP Third District, is leading the group.

”We stand ready to assist our colleagues in Milwaukee with this high-profile event,” said Col. James F. Grady II, director of the MSP. “As state troopers, our members are trained in crowd management and scene security to ensure a safe environment for everyone. We have planned our mobilization to ensure we leave adequate staffing here in our state.”

Michigan joined EMAC in 2002. States can request help from other states through EMAC. The cost to deploy resources are reimbursed.

Chicago did not make an EMAC request for law enforcement at the Democratic National Convention, according to Michigan State Police.
