The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) launched a new air quality monitoring dashboard.
EGLE maintains a network of air monitoring stations that are used to provide the public with information about air quality. The dashboard that shows real-time air monitoring data was recently rebuilt. The new dashboard can be found at Michigan.gov/MiAir.
“We are excited to launch this new dashboard. This update provides information that is near real-time, historical data, and links to resources for the public,” air monitoring section manager Susan Kilmer said.
Here’s what the MiAir dashboard can do
The MiAir dashboard offers an air quality index, air quality forecast, and air pollutant dashboard. Those interested in receiving alerts can sign up to receive air quality notifications via email or to their phone.
On the dashboard, you can view the air quality index (AQI) by selecting an air monitor from the map to see the data. The AQI is a measure of the air quality in the area. The dashboard shows the AQI for ozone and particulate matter (PM)
The dashboard also has the current and past 24-hour measurements of each pollutant measured at that particular site. The sites measure ozone and particulate matter less than 10 and less than 2.5 microns in diameter (PM10 and PM2.5), among other pollutants like sulfur dioxide (SO2) carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide (N02), nitrogen oxide (NO), and more.
The dashboard also shows temperature and wind direction.
