Deputy treated for minor injuries; Driver arrested on charges

WASHINGTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A suspected drunk driver who had a 12-year-old in her car Tuesday night slammed into a Macomb County Sheriff's deputy's patrol car as it was parked on the shoulder of a freeway in Washington Township, officials said.

In a statement, Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said the deputy was on M-53 near 29 Mile Road at about 7:15 p.m. when a 37-year-old Warren woman driving a Chevy Avalanche hit the side of the deputy's patrol car.

The deputy, who has not been named, was taken to a hospital by ambulance, treated for minor injuries and released. He has been with the Sheriff's Office for four-and-a-half years, Wickersham said.

Wickersham said neither the driver of the Avalanche or her 12-year-old passenger were hurt.

The driver was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated, child endangerment and possession of marijuana.
