There was no sign of Oreo until he turned up more than a thousand miles away - in Midland, Michigan.
Oreo was brought to the Midland County Humane Society where it was discovered he had a microchip. They located his owners and he'll soon be on his way home.
"We don't know how the dog ended up here, she has no clue how the dog ended up here, we wish he could tell us but he's not talking," said Diane Winkler, the volunteer coordinator for the Humane Society of Midland County, reports NBC 25.
"Someone found him wandering in Midland, and she said she picked him up because she was afraid he would get hit by a car,” said Winkler.
