DETROIT – A Detroit officer will not face charges in the fatal shooting of a suspect during a struggle following a foot chase on Detroit’s west side in February.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy held a news conference Wednesday morning and said the officer involved in the shooting will not face charges.

The shooting happened at Otsego and Webb streets.
According to police, the man, Raynard Burton, was fleeing from police in a green Pontiac Bonneville and lost control of his vehicle, hitting a utility pole. Burton allegedly got out of the vehicle and ran on foot.
Chief Craig said the officer was in the process of handcuffing Burton when the suspect tried grab the officer's gun. Police said the officer got into a scuffle with the man and fatally shot him.
The officer was not injured.
Burton was pronounced dead at the scene.
Worthy said that witnesses at the scene corroborated the officer's account of what happened at the scene.
A subsequent investigation revealed the Pontiac Bonneville was carjacked two days prior to the shooting.

Police originally had said there was more than one person involved in the scuffle.
