DETROIT – Police from several jurisdictions are executing a search warrant at Victory Inn motel on Michigan Avenue in Detroit.
Michigan Avenue is closed between Wyoming Avenue and Weir Street as police converge on the motel.
Sources tell Local 4 police are investigating several reports of illegal activity such as prostitution, drug deals and stolen property.
Federal agents are involved in this raid. The Department of Homeland Security issued this statement on the raid:
Today, special agents and officers as part of a multi-agency enforcement effort led by Homeland Security Investigation are executing federal search warrants in an ongoing criminal investigation.
Because enforcement activities are currently underway, we cannot elaborate further at this time. Additional details may be available later today.
Detroit police: Motel is notorious for drugs, human trafficking
Detroit police said the motel has been a long-term problem for the department's 4th Precinct.
"In 2016, we serviced 115 police runs to the exact address and more to the surrounding area," a Detroit police spokesman said. "The address has had two shootings, numerous aggravated assaults, robberies and two homicides where the victims were traced back to the Victory Inn. The location is a notorious spot for narcotic and human trafficking, which drives crime issues in the area."
Homeland Security, Customs and Border Patrol, Detroit police, Dearborn police and Taylor police all are involved.
