WARREN, Mich. – The Macomb County Election Commission will meet March 27 to decide if a recall petition against Warren Mayor Jim Fouts can move forward.
The petition was filed March 8 against Fouts, who is under fire for alleged recordings of him saying mentally impaired people are dysfunctional.
Fouts denies he's on the records, but an expert told WDIV the recordings are real.
If the election approves the wording, the petition's organizer -- Joseph Hunt -- can move forward with collecting signatures. Organizers need 9,200 signatures from registered voters to force a recall election.
Warren Treasurer Lorie Barnwell has called for Fouts to resign.
