ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Michigan State Police chased a crew of men Tuesday morning who are suspected of stealing tires and rims from all over Metro Detroit.
The chase started near Lincoln and Campbell in Royal Oak after a task force zeroed in on the crew Monday night. They had been tracking the thieves, watching their moves and caught them in the act in Royal Oak.
Two suspects took off in a stolen SUV. They struck a state police car and led officers on a high-speed chase which reached speeds of more than 100 mph.
Chase ends with crash in Southfield
The chase ended in Southfield where the stolen SUV rolled over and went through a parking lot fence near 9 Mile and Greenfield road. One of the suspects was thrown from the vehicle while another was trapped underneath. Both are hospitalized.
The third suspect was arrested before the chase even started. No officers were injured, although a state police vehicle was damaged when the suspects rammed it at the start of the chase.
Neighbors in the area are surprised to hear what happened. However, everyone is happy to know the suspected thieves are off the streets.
Tire, rim theft suspects wanted for 2 years
Police said these three men have been sought by multiple departments for the past two years. They are suspected of being behind tire and rim thefts all over Metro Detroit.
Moreover, these men may also be connected to the assault of two Canton Township police officers in January.
