Suspect in custody as police investigate possible homicide in Westland

Shelter-in-place lifted at several nearby schools

WESTLAND, Mich. – Police are investigating a possible homicide in Westland that had multiple schools under a shelter-in-place protocol.

Officials said the incident happened at a house on Joy Road along the border of Livonia and Westland.

Joy Road was closed in both directions between Danzig and Hillcrest streets.

One person is in custody, and the shelter-in-place has been lifted, police said.

The schools affected were Franklin High, Hayes Elementary, Cooper Upper Elementary, Grant Elementary and Western Wayne Skill Center.
