DETROIT – The United States Coast Guard is sending help from the Great Lakes region down to Texas, where flooding from Tropical Storm Harvey has left a path of devastation.
Lt. Ben Chamberlain, of the Detroit USCG sector, said 38 active duty personnel from the Great Lakes region have been sent to aid in rescue efforts. Of those 38, 12 are from Metro Detroit.

Chamberlain said two helicopters and four airboats have been sent to Texas. The USCG Great Lakes personnel will provide engineering support and will be crewing those vessels.
The Coast Guard plans to send more personnel from the Great Lakes region as needed.
