DETROIT – The United Autoworkers (UAW) strike against Aramark, which started a day before the union's national strike against General Motors, is carrying on while contract negotiations remain hung up on wages and healthcare.

That's according to an update from UAW Vice President and Director Terry Dittes, who released this statement on Tuesday:

Dear Union Brothers and Sisters:

Our Members at Aramark, which are from UAW Regions 1, 1D and 2B, are on strike for the 24th consecutive day.

We continue to meet with the Company and are still not in agreement on key issues such as wages and healthcare.

We thank you for your sacrifices and loyalty during this difficult time. We will continue to work hard on your behalf to reach a Tentative Agreement that is good for you and your families!

In solidarity,

Terry Dittes

More than 850 Aramark workers in Michigan and Ohio walked off the job Saturday, Sept. 14 over better wages, health care and retirement. The strike hit day 24 on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

According to the UAW, Aramark maintenance workers in Hamtramck, Warren, Flint, Grand Blanc and Parma, Ohio had been working on an extended contract since March of 2018.

"Every day, UAW members go to work and keep these plants profitable," said UAW Region 1 Director Frank Stuglin. "It's astounding that Aramark has not agreed to bargain in good faith over their contributions."

Key issues involve wages, caps on health insurance, vacation time, job security and retirement plans.
