DETROIT – Detroit police were in pursuit of a white minivan Tuesday evening until it was involved in a crash.
The van was struck by another vehicle at 7 Mile Road and Omira Street.
The driver was taken into custody.
Police said there was an undercover prostitution sting in the area of State Fair and John R. roads.
Two male police officers were undercover, and a group of men in a white van pulled up and pointed an assault rifle at them.
Other police officers doing surveillance saw the gun and swooped in. The men in the van took off, prompting the chase.
Police said it might have been an attempted robbery, but the men didn't know they were trying to rob undercover police officers.
There were also two female officers undercover at the scene.
