WYANDOTTE, Mich. – Officers driving an unmarked vehicle were stunned to see a motorist driving backwards for over a mile on a major road in Wyandotte.
The incident happened at about 2 p.m. Oct. 9 on Biddle Avenue.
Undercover officers noticed the vehicle near Ford Avenue and a traffic stop was initiated near Southfield Road. The driver was reaching speeds of 35 to 40 mph and was keeping up with the flow of traffic.
According to authorities, the driver said he was in reverse because he was having transmission problems.
Police said the driver admitted to smoking marijuana several hours prior to driving and claimed to have a medical marijuana card. Marijuana was found in the vehicle but no one in the vehicle was charged because the passenger was in possession of a medical marijuana card, according to police.
The driver was charged with reckless driving, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, no license on person and no proof of insurance.
