Emergency workers in North Carolina are frustrated over what they say are "Narcan parties," in which drug users intentionally overdose with the idea they'll be brought back with the drug.
Emergency Management Services battalion chief for Rowan County, Chris Richardson, told WSOC people are overdosing in houses or public places, knowing responders are nearby with Narcan.

"With Narcan readily available and over the counter now, they are having group gatherings called Narcan parties. They will have numerous people around."
Drug users say revival by Narcan gives them a rush.
When Narcan was administered in 2016 in Rowan County, 292 calls were reported total. Just this year through June, Rowan County has seen 284 calls--a 94 percent increase.
