DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – Dearborn Heights police are working to find out what happened to a woman whose body was found early Monday morning in a field.
Police said the African-American woman was found near Powers Avenue and Glenis Street.
Westland police are questioning four people in connection with the case, one of which is the woman's boyfriend.
They believe the woman was killed in Westland and her body was dumped in Dearborn Heights.
She did not have any clothes on. She had a sheet and a portion of a night gown covering her face. Investigators say the woman had been severely beaten.
Dearborn Heights police brought in Michigan State Police to help them with their investigation. Investigators paid closed attention to the tire tracks in the snow Monday morning found near the body.
"The area that the body was left in is an area where you can obviously see there are no homes right across the street and on the other side of the street there is a dark backyard. So the spot was probably picked, maybe in haste, but the spot was picked," said Lt. James Serwatowski, Dearborn Heights police.
Police packed up bags of evidence before they left the scene. They are sorting through those bags for clues to help them track down the killer. Investigators say identifying the victim is crucial.
"She didn't have any identification with her so we are going to work on that -- getting her identified, maybe through fingerprints, maybe through some photographs," said Serwatowski.
A cause of death has not yet been released.
