Woman shot after son has argument about gas pump at Detroit gas station

DETROIT – A 50-year-old woman was shot Thursday after her son had an argument about a gas pump with men in another vehicle at a Detroit gas station.

According to police, a man driving a Dodge Charger pulled up to a pump at the Valero on Livernois Avenue and Joy Road. Police said he realized he was on the wrong side of the pump, so he began to back up to go to another pump.

Police said that a vehicle with four men inside pulled up to the same pump. There were verbal arguments between the driver of the Charger and the men in the other vehicle, police said.

When the driver of the Charger left the gas station, the men in the other vehicle followed him, police said. There was another verbal altercation while on the road, police said.

One of the men in the other vehicle then pulled out a rifle and shot at the Charger, police said. The driver's mother was hit in the leg, police said.

Her son drove her to the 10th Precinct to get help, and she was taken to the hospital, police said. The victim is expected to survive, police said.

The driver's girlfriend and 3-year-old child were also in the vehicle, police said.

Police are asking for information about the crime.

They said the shooter was in a 2008 blue Dodge Charger with black rims. All of the men in the suspect vehicle were black, and one of the men had dreadlocks. Police did not have any other descriptions of the men.
