YPSILANTI, Mich. – A family in Ypsilanti is exasperated with how police are handling the investigation following a shooting Wednesday.
Surveillance cameras in the area captured the drive-by shooting at a home on Jefferson Street near South Hamilton Street.
Shots were fired from a white Ford Fusion at about 6:30 p.m.
Jennifer Jones said the target was her 19-year-old son.
"I think they are trying to kill my son," Jones said. "That's what I am worried about. I cannot get any help from the police."
Jones' said the people in the car are between the ages of 15 and 18 and are high school students in Ypsilanti.
She said her son had an argument with the teenagers over social media and when things got heated, he cut off all contact to protect himself.
On Wednesday, Jones said the teens in the Fusion saw her son and followed him home. Jones said when her son ran into the house, the teenagers opened fire.
"He barely made it in," Jones said. "They were chasing him."
Three people were inside the house at the time. No one was struck by gunfire.
Jones said Ypsilanti police told her they would look for the teens involved. She said it is urgent that they find them.
"They need to go to the school and arrest them," Jones said. "They committed a crime, and they need to be held responsible for it."
