Happy Saturday! The weekend edition of this newsletter will be a bit different from the normal Monday through Friday version. On Saturdays, I'll take a look some of my top picks from the last week, and highlight some of the events going on around Metro Detroit. Enjoy!
Stories you missed this week
- Get into DTW without a boarding pass: Have you ever wanted to check out the restaurants at Detroit Metro Airport but you're not in the mood to jump on a plane? A new program will allow you to just that!
- Chick-fil-A opening 4 new stores: Chick-fil-A plans to open four restaurants in Metro Detroit in 2020. More chicken for you!
- Daddy-daughter dance routine at Detroit Mercy wins Twitter's heart: A video of a father and daughter's dance routine at University of Detroit Mercy has been making the rounds on Twitter and Facebook this week -- and it's adorable.
- Nickelodeon to open North America's largest indoor theme park: All your favorite Nickelodeon characters are coming to New Jersey.
- Detroit ghost hunters share 5 scariest paranormal experiences: For my money, the best paranormal team in the region offered some insider experiences during their most memorable investigations. Check it out, if you dare.
Events around town this weekend
- Evil Dead: The Musical Detroit: If you're a fan of the cult horror classic "Evil Dead," you have to check out the musical in Downtown Detroit. It's a fun (and fake bloody) time.
- Capitol Park Block Party: The local businesses and institutions surrounding Capitol Park are teaming up to support the Downtown Detroit Partnership's Patronicity campaign to build a new off-leash dog park in Capitol Park!
- The O'Jays & The Isley Brothers: These two iconic acts will take the stage at the Fox Theatre on Sunday night. It's going to be funky. (Here's my favorite O'Jays song)
- Ballet Folklorico de Detroit: Celebrate the Day of the Dead with special performances by Ballet Folklórico de Detroit, a Mexican folkloric dance group based in Southwest Detroit that aims to preserve the culture of Mexico and promote positive growth within the community. This group of dancers will showcase several traditional dances and costumes from various regions of Mexico.
- Detroit Lions vs. New York Giants: The Lions take the field again at Ford Field on Sunday, looking for their third win of the season after three straight losses.
