DETROIT – You can really get to know your cat through its tail.

Cats display an endless amount of body language through movement in their tails.

So, what does it all mean? Here are some quick definitions for each tail wag or movement.

Wrapped tail

A wrapped tail is usually a sign of affection. Head butting is also common for this.

Vertical tail

An upright tail or rattle tail is usually a sign of friendliness. “If your cat does the little tail quiver when he sees you, that means he is happy and content," says Dr. Eloise Bright.

The Swish tail

Usually means your cat is in a playful, pouncy mood. Watch out for your feet!

The tail flick

This usually means your cat is displeased or upset. 

Arched tail

Your cat may feel threatened. 

The Twitch tail

This could mean your cat is very concentrated on something.
