Detroit is known for its music and being home to one of the biggest running races in the world. There are events that include both of those activities happening this weekend around the D. Thanks to our sponsors at Your Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers, Kila Peeples joined Tati Amare and Jason Carr to discuss some of the fun things going on this weekend.
The Detroit Free Press/TCF Bank Marathon
Thousands will be lacing up their sneakers and hitting the streets, running downtown, to and from Canada in this international race. You don't have to run the entire 26.2 miles to take part. There are some short distance races like a 5k and relay team. It's happening this Saturday and Sunday, starting at the TCF Center, formerly known as Cobo Center. Online signup is closed but day of registrations may be available for some shorter races.
3rd Annual Cider Slush
This is a fundraising event that sponsors Core Orchards, the only orchard located in Detroit whose mission is to provide Detroit's east side with fresh and nutritous foods. The orchard is teaming up with local cider makers for an event filled with hard cider, donuts and slushes. It's happening at Shed Five Friday starting at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $20.
Oktoberfest at Detroit Fleat
Head to this Ferndale food truck mainstay to enjoy nine local breweries along with amazing Bavarian eats. DJ Dave Lawson will be there with a curated all vinyl set. It starts at 5 p.m. Saturday with tickets starting at $16.
Patti LaBelle Live
Living legend Patti LaBelle is gracing the stage this weekend. She will be performing at Sound Board Theater inside Motor City Casino. WDIV's own Evrod Cassimy will be opening for her. You can see both Ms. LaBelle and Evrod Sunday. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $80.
Diwali Festival
The Indian community is celebrating Diwali, the festival of lights, with a big event at the Henry Ford Community Center in Dearborn. There will be lots of food, Bollywood and cultural dancing, contests, shopping and more. The event is open to everyone. It's this Saturday from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.
