The Waza soccer club and Waza Flo are known as an organization that looks out for the youth and the community and try to find ways to give back, from their free soccer camps to inner city kids to sending soccer supplies to children in Kenya.
With the cold weather of winter and the holidays fast approaching, the team is hoping that fans will help support them as they support others not only in giving to Gleaners but also in enjoying a night out of the cold and watching the Waza Flo team in action.
The #3 Eastern Division Syracuse Silver Knights (1-2) will be hoping this away game will bring better results as their previous season opener away game when they fell to Baltimore 16-7. The Knights fell again to Baltimore, this time at home last weekend 11-4. Their only win of the season so far comes against #3 Pacific Division Ontario by a score of 18-2.
Waza Flo are looking to get their rhythm back despite losing their last two games against Milwaukee and Rochester. Giving back and inspiring others this Saturday with the food drive should help get some of that back and remind them as to who they are and the talent and drive they possess to win against Syracuse.
Owner Dominic Scicluna and his entire family off the field have also faced a lot of struggles these past few weeks as well as the team has been struggling on the field. Scicluna's Grandfather and Uncle both passed away just over a week ago and his brother Tino and his family lost his father-in-law as well just days later. After a funeral on Friday and then traveling to Rochester on Saturday night to
play, it's been a hard time for Waza Flo. They also just had his Grandmother go in for emergency surgery this week. He is of course grateful for the outpouring of support from the fans and the team and also grateful that his Scicluna family is a strong and loving one as well.
"It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters" Epictetus (c.AD 55-c.135), the Scicluna family and Waza Flo are doing just that this weekend.
They are reacting to the adversity they have faced on and off the field over the last few weeks by doing what they do best and that's to give back to others, take care of the community and playing soccer!
