Four-star offensive tackle recruit Chuck Filiaga committed to Michigan football Saturday during the second quarter of the Army All-American Bowl.
Filiaga helped end a short dry spell for the Wolverines, who went on a recruiting tear throughout December. Michigan missed out on a few targets over the past weeks, but Filiaga was a much-needed addition.

The 6-foot-6 Aledo, Texas, native joins Kai-Leon Herbert, JaRaymond Hall, Andrew Stueber and Joel Honigford as offensive tackles in the 2017 Michigan class. No. 1 center Cesar Ruiz and will also join the offensive line.
Filiaga is the No. 14 offensive tackle in the nation, according to 247 Sports. He's also the No. 14 player in Texas and the No. 98 player in the country.
With three starters on the offensive line graduating, Michigan desperately needs help at the position next season. Their weaknesses were exposed during the Orange Bowl loss to Florida State, when quarterback Wilton Speight was regularly avoiding pressure. True freshmen Mason Cole (2014) and Ben Bredeson (2016) have started a recent trend of young players starting on the line for Michigan, and Filiaga will compete to join that club.
Michigan, USC and Oklahoma were the finalists to land Filiaga, who also had scholarship offers from 26 other schools. Among his most impressive offers were ones from Texas, USC, Alabama, Auburn and Nebraska.
Michigan's class now has 27 commitments -- one five-star, 17 four-stars and nine three-stars. The Wolverines have the fourth-ranked class in the country behind Alabama, Ohio State and Georgia, according to 247 Sports.
