DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers are the 18th most valuable baseball franchise, according to Forbes.
The 2017 MLB Valuations list puts the team's value at $1.2 billion, even with a $36.4 million operating loss last season.

The Tigers also have the second-highest payroll in Major League Baseball, just before the Dodgers and ahead of the New York Yankees.
The Yankees are the most valuable franchise, valued at $3.7 billion, followed by the Dodgers at $2.75 billion and the Boston Red Sox at $2.7 billion.
Mike Ilitch purchased the Tigers for $82 million in 1992.
