DETROIT – The NCAA has awarded seven future NCAA championship events to Detroit, including the 2020 Division I Men's Ice Hockey Frozen Four, 2021 Division I Men’s Basketball First and Second Rounds, and the 2022 Division I Men's College Wrestling Championships.
“Today’s decision by the NCAA validates the tremendous collaborative effort that went into this year-long process,” said Detroit Sports Commission director Kris Smith. “It would have not been possible without the support of our host institutions and community partners. We look forward to delivering a one-of-a-kind, unique championship experience to the student-athletes and fans and showcasing the world-class sports destination Detroit is.”

In February 2016, the NCAA released its bid specifications for four academic years from 2018-2019 through 2021-22. The procedure is used as a way to streamline the process and allow host cities the opportunities to maximize their submissions and match the available championships to their resources. The deadline for submissions was in August of last year.
