DETROIT – Cameras captured a heated exchange between Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander and designated hitter Victor Martinez in the dugout after a benches-clearing brawl with the New York Yankees.

Verlander and Martinez were among the players on the field Thursday after Miguel Cabrera incited a Yankees-Tigers brawl by shoving and throwing punches at backup catcher Austin Romine.

The video shows a frustrated Verlander gesturing toward Martinez and walking away. Martinez tried to follow Verlander, but was held back by third baseman Nicholas Castellanos.

The three players appeared to have had a heated debate near the dugout steps before the altercation.

Cabrera had confronted Romine after a pitch was thrown at Cabrera earlier in the at-bat. Yankees star Gary Sanchez had been hit by a pitch earlier in the game.

Later, Tigers catcher James McCann was drilled in the head by a 98 mph fastball, which brought the players out of the dugouts again. McCann stayed in the game and later hit a 433-foot home run.
