DETROIT – Taylor Decker had an amazing message for Ben Johnson after the Detroit Lions dialed up a successful trick play against the Panthers.
By now, I’m sure all fans have watched the replay of the double reverse flea flicker touchdown pass to Sam LaPorta at least 100 times. On Wednesday, the Lions posted some on-field audio from Decker right after the play.
Decker celebrated on the field, trotted to the sideline, and then found offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. He told him, “You’re a sicko. I love it.”

It’s funny because it’s true. Johnson has cooked up some gems already this season, including the flea flicker and the snap through Jared Goff’s legs during the win over the Panthers.
Johnson got some interest from teams with head coaching vacancies this offseason but ultimately returned for another season. The Lions are certainly glad he did, because his offensive creativity has helped them score 20 or more points for a franchise-record 14 straight games.
That small interaction was another fun moment for a Lions team that’s been extremely enjoyable to watch through five weeks. Decker is the veteran on a strong offensive line and Johnson is one of the best coordinators in the league.
Johnson’s definitely a sicko, but in a good way -- an offensive genius/mad scientist kind of way.
