This morning, many baseball fans across the country woke to the news that the Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers are your participants in the World Series.
The Rangers beat the Astros two nights ago in Game 7 to earn a spot. Then last night, Arizona made it in with a Game 7 win. They actually won 2 straight in Philly to win the NLCS.
However, these two teams belong. Both were wild card entries. Both also won Games 6 and 7 on the road to earn the berth. That has never happened before in baseball history. You might remember Arizona won it all back in 2001 on a Luis Gonzales single in the 9th to beat the Yankees. The Rangers have never won it all.
The Rangers are favored in the series, but the D-Backs have been resilient all season. They finished the regular season at 84-78, which is 6 games over .500. However, they’ve gone 9-3 in the playoffs to reach this point.
The Rangers are 8-0 on the road in the postseason. Maybe two teams that are hungry for a title will be better than the fat cats who seem to show up every year. So, play ball, starting in Arlington Friday night.
