DETROIT – The Detroit Lions could get two key starters back on the offensive line this weekend, and a third player has earned a starting spot.
Dan Campbell spoke Wednesday about his line, which has dealt with injuries to each of the preseason starters except Penei Sewell. Two of those players -- center Frank Ragnow and left guard Jonah Jackson -- could return Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
“Both of them were at practice (Tuesday),” Campbell said. “Full day of work. They both look pretty good, too. Barring any setbacks, it’s looking pretty good.”
That’s great news for a team that’s also overcome injuries to preseason starters Halapoulivaati Vaitai and Taylor Decker.
The injuries to Ragnow, Jackson, and Vaitai forced offseason signee Graham Glasgow into the lineup at multiple positions. Glasgow was signed to provide depth on the interior of the line, but now, with all the starters potentially back in action, he’s not about to head back to the bench.
Campbell was asked whether Glasgow has earned the starting right guard spot, and he said yes.
“Yeah, I think so,” Campbell said. “I think that’s fair, you know? We’re always assessing (Vaitai), and he’s still working at it, but Graham’s certainly been productive for us, and he’s been productive in three different spots -- left guard, center, and certainly right guard before that. He’s been an asset for us. That was a good signing for us to get, and fortunate to have him. He’s a steady, reliable piece for us.”
That means Sunday could be the first time in weeks that the Lions have a fully healthy line of Decker, Jackson, Ragnow, Glasgow, and Sewell.
