Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin was placed in injured reserve after losing consciousness after being hit in the back of his head on Saturday night vs. Ottawa.

Larkin was laying on the ice, motionless, for about a minute before being helped off the ice under his own power. He’s officially listed as having an upper body injury.

Larkin has dealt with multiple neck and head injuries in recent years.

Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said Monday he talked to Larkin on Sunday night and reports he was in good spirits.

A player placed on IR is ineligible to compete in NHL games for a period of not less than seven days. Players may attend club meetings and meals, travel with the club and participate in practice sessions.
