DETROIT – The Detroit Lions are inching closer to their first division title since 1993 after a big primetime win over the Denver Broncos on Saturday night at Ford Field.
Detroit controlled most of the game, taking a 21-0 lead into the half. Denver got on the board in the second half but the Lions held on for a convincing win against the Broncos, who had entered the game winning six of their last seven games. The final score was 42-17.

The Lions improve to 10-4 on the season, their best mark since 1962, and just a win away from clinching the NFC North for the first time since 1993. Detroit would host a playoff game with the division title. With a Seattle loss to Philadelphia on Monday night, the Lions would clinch at least a wild card playoff spot.
Lions quarterback Jared Goff had five passing touchdowns, including three to rookie tight end Sam LaPorta, and one to Amon-Ra St. Brown. Lions running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs combined for more than 180 yards on the ground.
The Lions bounced back from an ugly loss last week vs. Chicago in almost every way -- the offense and defense were much better, and it looked more like the Lions football we saw earlier in the season.
The Lions will hit the road next week to take on Minnesota for the first time this season, before visiting Dallas for another primetime Saturday game on Dec. 30.
