Detroit bar bans Matthew Stafford jerseys on Lions playoff gameday

Thomas Magee’s asks fans to ‘use some common sense’

The Lions are trading Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for quarterback Jared Goff, two future first-round picks and a third-round pick, a person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press. DETROIT – “Use some common sense.”

That’s what one bar is telling Detroit Lions fans ahead of Sunday’s playoff game against Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams.

Thomas Magee’s in Eastern Market doesn’t want any doubt about this city’s rooting interest as the former Lions quarterback comes to town for the wildcard round.

“PSA: please refrain from trying to enter Thomas Magee’s on game day with Lions Stafford jerseys,” the bar posted on Facebook. “You’ll be turned away at the door. It’s our first home game in 30 years, use some common sense. Regards, Ownership.”

Many Lions fans still feel devoted to Stafford because he spent his first 12 NFL seasons with the Lions. But now, he and the Rams stand directly in the way of this city’s first playoff win in three decades.

Downtown will be flooded with Lions fans by the time Sunday Night Football kicks off, but if you’re splitting your loyalty between the Lions and someone who doesn’t play for the Lions, Thomas Magee’s apparently isn’t the spot for you.
