This Sunday, the Lions play their first playoff game ever at Ford Field, and ironically, it’s against the LA Rams, led by quarterback Matthew Stafford.
The same Matthew Stafford who spent 12 seasons with the Lions before being traded to the Rams. In his first year there, he won a Super Bowl.
Now, he returns to do battle with Jared Goff, who, along with a boatload of picks, came to the Lions in exchange for Stafford. Talking about irony, you’ve got two quarterbacks facing their former teams.
This feels personal because the Rams didn’t want Goff, and the Lions wanted Stafford, but Stafford wanted out. Great irony on display.
So now, until 8:00 Sunday night, the talk will be all about how much these quarterbacks wanted a measure of payback. The Lions never supported Stafford, but when he got to LA and had quality around him, he won it all.
As for Goff, he gets a chance to show the Rams how wrong they were in trading him away. Irony can be so ironic. Sunday night, we will find out just how much.
