SAN FRANCISCO – The Detroit Lions are one of only four teams to never play in a Super Bowl, but that could change this weekend.
Detroit won its first playoff game in three decades in the first round and then added a second last week. But the NFC Championship Game will be a much tougher challenge.
The 49ers and Lions finished the regular season with the same record, but San Francisco has been considered one of the top teams in the NFL since the start of the season. After surviving a scare against the Packers last week, they’re heavy favorites to beat the Lions at home.
Though the Lions will consider this a successful season no matter what happens in San Francisco, they also don’t want to miss this opportunity. They’re one game away from the Super Bowl, and those opportunities can’t be taken for granted.
This is the most important Lions game in half a century.
