I know, we don’t care: But the Chiefs won the Super Bowl

Lions’ painful loss in NFC Championship Game overshadows Super Bowl

DETROIT – I know, we don’t really care because our hearts were broken when the Detroit Lions lost, but I’m obligated to inform you that the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl.

For many fans around Michigan, this Super Bowl just didn’t feel the same. The NFC Championship Game brought us nothing but pain -- and while it was good to feel something on the big stage, those wounds still haven’t fully healed.

But we are a news station, so we have a duty to mention when something noteworthy happens. The Super Bowl is noteworthy, so let’s get it over with:

The Chiefs won. Again. The final score was 25-22 in overtime. Great. Fantastic.

Fortunately, Lions fans definitely do not hold a grudge and won’t spend the entire offseason thinking about how they had the 49ers dead in the water before throwing the game away with dropped passes and a turnover. Fortunately. Because that would really, really stink.

The highlight of the night for many Lions fans was a 55-yard field goal from Northville native and former Michigan football star Jake Moody. That’s right: the highlight was a field goal. But at least it was the longest in Super Bowl history for a bit (it was broken by Harrison Butker two quarters later).

Whatever, the season is over, and Lions fans can be proud of what they accomplished. Heck, they beat the Super Bowl champs and should have beaten the runners-up.

Now we can put that painful memory behind us and look ahead to an exciting offseason. Detroit is hosting the NFL draft. The Lions will be a hot destination for free agents. Brad Holmes is going to do his thing.

Congrats again to the Chiefs. They were one of the best teams in the NFL this year. Maybe soon, it’ll be the Lions’ turn.
