DETROIT – The best defensive player player in the Canadian Football League has signed with the Detroit Lions after an incredible statistical season.
Mathieu Betts, 28, was named the Most Outstanding Defensive Player in the CFL after recording a record 18 sacks in 18 games for the British Columbia Lions. He also forced four fumbles and made a total of 42 tackles on the season.
The Lions are coming off their best season in decades -- an NFC North title and a trip to the conference championship game. But pressuring the quarterback was one of their weaknesses, and they’re looking anywhere they can for some help opposite Aidan Hutchinson.
If Brad Holmes thinks Betts has a chance to make the team, Lions fans will gladly trust him.
