DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers have traded an infielder to the Los Angeles Dodgers after last week’s waiver claim.
Andre Lipcius, 25, was designated for assignment late last week when the Tigers claimed infielder Buddy Kennedy off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals.
On Monday, Lipcius was traded to the Dodgers for cash considerations.
Lipcius made his MLB debut for the Tigers last season, batting .286 with a homer and a double in 13 games. He’s a career .266/.358/.409 hitter across 1,770 minor-league plate appearances.
The Tigers drafted Lipcius in the third round of the 2019 draft, but new team president Scott Harris has recently started to stock the 40-man roster with more and more high-on-base bats, like Kennedy. Lipcius had no minor-league options remaining, so they were forced to expose him to waivers.
Rather than wait out the waivers process, the Dodgers offered cash to the Tigers to land Lipcius.
This isn’t the first minor trade between Harris and the Dodgers. He acquired minor-league infielder Eddys Leonard for cash in August.
