They were already a trendy playoff pick before addressing their greatest weakness, the secondary, in free agency and adding several starters in the NFL draft.

The Lions traded up in the first round to select Alabama Crimson Tide cornerback Terrion Arnold with the No. 24 pick.

They then selected Missouri Tigers cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. with the No. 61 pick in the second round in front of the hometown fans in downtown Detroit.

Rakestraw Jr. and Arnold will join newly signed corners Carlton Davis, Amik Robertson, and Lions veteran Emmanual Mosely in the secondary as they try to stay atop of the NFC North.

On offense, the Lions are returning their explosive weaponry, starting with franchise quarterback Jared Goff, who agreed to a massive four-year, $212 million deal with $170 million guaranteed.

Detroit has solidified its receiving corps by securing Amon-Ra St. Brown with a lucrative four-year extension. This move, worth over $120 million with $77 million guaranteed, demonstrates the team’s commitment to maintaining a robust offensive line-up.

The Lions have prioritized protecting their quarterback and receiver combo, making Penei Sewell the highest-paid offensive lineman in the National Football League.

His four-year extension, worth $112 million with $85 million guaranteed, clearly indicates the team’s commitment to fortifying its offensive line.

Don’t forget the running back duo of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, who were thunder and lightning to opposing defenses.

Sam LaPorta looked like the best tight end in football last season, and with Jameson Williams and his two-touchdown performance in the NFC Championship game, his getting a full offseason to adapt to the team during training camp will all but sure up his role as wide receiver No. 2.
