NEW YORK – The Detroit Pistons have made a promising choice, selecting G League Ignite star Ron Holland II with the No. 5 overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NBA draft, a move that holds great potential for the team’s future.
Holland II is a 6′8″, 206-pound forward who has been compared to Cam Whitmore and RJ Barrett. He is an attacking wing who plays tremendous defense.
With the addition of Holland II, the Pistons are assembling a young team with enormous potential. Alongside 2023 No. 5 pick Ausar Thompson and 2022 No. 5 pick Jaden Ivey, Jalen Duren, and Cade Cunningham, the team’s future looks incredibly bright.
The 18-year-old may end up coming off the bench behind the Pistons’ already young core, but he will get more playing time as the primary scorer with the second unit.
The Pistons can only go up from here after winning only 14 games, losing 68 last season, and setting a franchise record for consecutive losses with 28.
With the addition of Holland II’s skillset and lanky frame, he will be dominant. Holland II is very confident in his game, especially when attacking the basket, and his explosiveness is a significant strength.
Holland II averaged 20.6 points while shooting 44.3% from the field in 14 games with the Ignite.
