Professional tennis returns to Bloomfield Hills

The Cranbrook Tennis Classic begins on July 1

DETROIT – Get ready to witness the exhilarating return of professional tennis to Southeast Michigan in 2024.

The Cranbrook Tennis Classic welcomes the ATP Challenger Tour for the second straight year to the campus of Cranbrook Tennis Complex in Bloomfield Hills.

Last year, pro tennis returned to the Detroit area for the first time in more than three decades.

“We have a large, diverse, and thriving tennis community here in Southeast Michigan, and it sort of bothered me that there was no professional event,” CTC founder David Demuth said. “I just made it my mission to bring pro tennis back to Michigan.”

The second year of the CTC will include rising stars worldwide, including some who advanced to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon and the Australian Open in recent years.

“We have a really exciting field with players from all over the world,” Demuth said. “I would say it’s a younger field this year, but some really exciting players.”

J.J. Wolf is the top-seeded player in the field this year. The American was ranked as high as 39th in the world in 2023.

The event is not just about the game but also about the future of tennis in Detroit.

All proceeds of the Cranbrook Tennis Classic will go to the Palmer Park Tennis Academy, a program that teaches tennis to children, and Cranbrook Athletics, helping to grow the sport we all love.

The Cranbrook Tennis Classic begins on July 1.

The singles finals match is set for Sunday, July 7, and the doubles finals are scheduled for Saturday, July 6.
