SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A singer born in Oakland County sent the internet into a frenzy Monday with a National Anthem performance that I think we can all agree was a little bit strange.

Ingrid Andress is a country music star who has been nominated for four Grammy Awards in the past: Best New Artist, Best Country Song, Best Country Album, and Best Country Duo/Group Performance.

Clearly, she is a talented singer and songwriter. Several of her songs have appeared on top 100 lists, after all.

But before Monday night’s MLB Home Run Derby, Andress gave a performance that was not quite as well received. Her rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner... well, it got a lot of attention.

It was so, uh, interesting, that social media basically forgot eight of the best baseball players in the world were about to hit a bunch of homers and instead talked about what they had just heard.

Some called it the worst version of the anthem ever. Others just thought it was really bad. I’m sure somewhere, somebody liked it.

Andress was born in Southfield in 1991. She grew up in Colorado and currently lives in Nashville (obviously: country music star), but still, she’s a Michigander.

Her dad, Brad Andress, used to be a strength and conditioning coach for the Detroit Tigers and the University of Michigan baseball team.

It probably hasn’t been an easy 12 hours for Andress. She even had to turn off replies on social media because people were so, let’s say, opinionated. How about we just chalk this one up to a bad night? It happens to the best performers -- just ask Gunnar Henderson!

Update: Andress issues statement

Andress posted a statement Tuesday afternoon on Instragram, saying she was drunk when she sang the anthem.

She said she is checking herself into rehab.
