SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The singer from Oakland County who was widely criticized following a strange National Anthem rendition said she was drunk at the time of the performance.
Ingrid Andress, a country music star who was born in Southfield, performed the Star-Spangled Banner before Monday night’s MLB Home Run Derby in Texas.
To say her rendition received a poor reception would be an understatement. It was pretty much the only thing anyone talked about on social media the rest of the night.
Just after 1 p.m. Tuesday, Andress issued a statement on X and Instagram.
“I’m not gonna bull---- y’all, I was drunk last night,” she wrote. “I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I’ll let y’all know how rehab is I hear it’s super fun.”
Andress has been nominated for Grammy Awards four times and has had multiple songs appear on top-100 lists. She refers to herself as a “four-time Grammy loser” in her Instagram profile.
While she was born in Southfield, Andress grew up in Colorado and now lives in Nashville. Her dad, Brad Andress, previously worked as a strength coach for the Detroit Tigers and the University of Michigan baseball team.
