DETROIT – Jack Flaherty is no longer starting for the Detroit Tigers on Monday night, as he’s expected to be traded “soon,” per reports.

The MLB trade deadline is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2024, and Flaherty is the most likely remaining Tigers player to be dealt.

Flaherty, 28, is the top available starter on the market, thanks to a 2.95 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and elite underlying strikeout and contact metrics.

But since he’s a free agent after this season, the Tigers are looking to cash in on his value. They’re well out of the playoff race, so holding onto him doesn’t do them much good.

Not wanting to risk an injury that could prove catastrophic for Flaherty’s trade value, they have scratched him from Monday’s start against the Cleveland Guardians.

Jon Heyman, of MLB Network, said a Flaherty trade “should be expected soon.” Whether that means it’ll happen Monday evening or closer to the Tuesday deadline is unclear.
