DETROIT – Dan Campbell talked about his plan for quarterback Hendon Hooker when the Detroit Lions take the field for the final preseason game this weekend.
Hooker is coming off a solid performance against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday. He played the entire second half and finished 12-of-15 for 150 yards. He also rushed for 11 yards and a score on five carries.
Campbell said he saw “some really good plays” and “some really bad plays” from Hooker, which isn’t a surprise considering these past few weeks have been his first taste of NFL action.
But what’s the plan for the popular young backup this weekend, when the Lions host the Pittsburgh Steelers at Ford Field?
Campbell said Hooker will play a lot.
“Certainly, we want to get him a real good look,” Campbell said. “We’d love to give him a lot of reps this week. I think the idea would be you’d love to start him this week. You know, I’d like to start him, and then it’s just a matter of, how much does he play?
“Is it a couple of series and then Nate (Sudfeld) goes in and then he’s back? Or is it a quarter? Or is it a half? But he’s going to get a really good look. He’s going to get a lot of reps this week, because he needs them.”
