ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A star from Michigan football’s national championship team just got traded before the start of his NFL rookie season.
Michael Barrett was a key piece of Michigan’s three-year run of excellence from 2021 through 2023. He was a regular contributor at linebacker and a star on special teams as the team won 40 of 43 games.
Barrett made 65 tackles and three sacks during Michigan’s 15-0 season in 2023, and then was drafted in the seventh round with pick No. 240 by the Carolina Panthers.
On Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, the Seattle Seahawks announced that they have traded cornerback Michael Jackson to the Panthers in exchange for Barrett.
That means Barrett will be reunited with Mike MacDonald, who was Michigan’s defensive coordinator during the critical 2021 season in which the Wolverines broke their losing streak to Ohio State, won a Big Ten title for the first time in 18 years, and made their first College Football Playoff appearance.
Another linebacker in the mix.
