Punches were thrown Sunday after a hard foul during a women’s college soccer match.
The fight began 55 minutes into the match, when Gia Girman, of Rutgers, fouled a Massachusetts player who was taking the ball up the sideline.
Ashley Lamond, of UMass, took exception to the contact and tried to grab the ball away from Girman.
The two got into a shoving match, and then punches were thrown as they fell to the ground.
Both players were pulled apart by teammates, but they were issued red cards and removed from the game.
UMass won the match 1-0.
