ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Michigan head football Coach Sherrone Moore is now officially under contract, the university announced Wednesday.

Moore agreed to a deal with Michigan in January after Jim Harbaugh left for the Los Angeles Chargers.

But reports surfaced last week that he wasn’t officially coaching under contract for Michigan’s first two games. That’s not completely unheard of, but it is unusual.

Well, any speculation about Moore’s job security has now been answered, as U of M President Santa Ono and Athletic Director Warde Manuel announced on social media that the deal has been “signed by all parties.”

Here’s their full statement:

We are excited to announce that the full contract for University of Michigan football Coach Sherrone Moore has been signed by all parties. He is a proven leader and has been a great ambassador during his seven-plus years representing Michigan. Our university and athletic department leadership is being Coach Moore, his coaching staff, and the great student-athletes who compete on the field and in the classroom. We are excited to see our team take the field this Saturday against Arkansas State.

Here’s a statement from Moore:

Our University of Michigan administration, led by President Santa Ono and Athletic Director Warde Manuel, has been tremendous throughout this process, and I am excited to have this full contract completed. Their support for our team is greatly appreciated, and all three of us are aligned in our goals for this football program. We want the attention to be on the players who work so hard to represent this team and university at the highest level. All of my focus is and always will be centered on the mental, physical, and spiritual development of the young men who suit up to play for Michigan. Go Blue!

Moore is two games into his first full season as head coach. The Wolverines beat Fresno State in the opener and lost to Texas in Week 2.

This isn’t his first experience leading the team on gameday, though. One of the primary reasons Moore was such an obvious choice to take over as head coach was his 4-0 record in an interim role during Michigan’s 2023 national championship run.
