The film is directed by Academy Award nominee Rachel Morrison and written by Academy Award winner Barry Jenkins.

Ryan Destiny stars as Shields and Academy Award nominee Brian Tyree Henry as Jason Crutchfield, Shields’ trainer.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, Sept. 7, 2024 and currently has a 94% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Fire Inside premiers in theatres December 25, 2024.

Flint native Shields, also known as the ‘GWOAT’ (Greatest Woman of All Time) is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, and the only women’s boxer in the four-belt era to be undisputed in two different weight classes. (Junior middleweight and Middleweight)

In July, Shields added to her already historic resume as she knocked out Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse for the world heavyweight championship. She became a five-division world champion and the only female fighter to jump from middleweight to heavyweight and win the world title.
